The hospital nurses and matrons shared a Goodbye Ceremony with our team. Pastor Shannon of Celebration Ministries welcomed and thanked everyone for such a successful outreach. Matrons Cecilia and Mandela thanked LEAP for our work and continued service in helping the children of Zimbabwe. They sang a beautiful song the parents sing to their children on the ward, thanking God for caring and watching over them. Dr. Hobar shared his gratitude, presented a cake and a basket of gifts to share with the staff on behalf of the LEAP Zimbabwe Team. We will look forward to our return in June 2016!
One of LEAP’s greatest opportunities in the mission field is to provide additional education to local medical professionals. This often includes our physicians and nurses speaking on relevant topics in various venues at our host countries.
This year in Zimbabwe, Melissa Howell, Nurse Practitioner (left, first photo), and Lori Allen, PACU nurse (right, first photo), provided lecture and teaching on the care of cleft patients to the hospital nursing staff from the operating theatre, pediatric floor, and pediatric ICU areas, along with the local nursing students. There were approximately 50 in attendance with other lecture series planned throughout the remainder of the week. The nurses and matrons were most appreciative of this needed teaching and training. Thank you, Melissa and Lori, for sharing your talents with these wonderful nurses.
