Our first Cheryl Lamon Memorial patient from India is here! We met eight-year-old Nainsi during our India mission last February. She was born with a large encephalocele (brain cyst) protruding from her forehead. If left untreated, it could become fatal.
Nainsi and her mother, Ramkali, arrived safely on Saturday and were cheerfully greeted at DFW Airport by LEAP staff and volunteers. Longtime LEAP volunteer Mary Pinto and her husband Errol have graciously opened their home and will transport them to Nainsi’s appointments.
Next Tuesday, January 14, Drs. Craig Hobar, Evan Beale (pictured left), and David Sacco will work together to remove the cyst. The surgery is expected to be over 6 hours. During this important week leading up to Nainsi’s complex surgery, please continue to keep her, Ramkali, and those caring for her in your prayers.
Here are additional ways to support Nainsi and Ramkali:
- Donate gift cards (Target, Walmart, Tom Thumb, etc.) for groceries and other necessities during their stay
- Donate gently used clothes for their family – children’s (size 8-10), women’s (sizes 0-2), and men’s (medium)
- Donate cash for them to take back to India
If you would like to support Nainsi, please contact Donna Matthews at donna@leapmissions.org or call the LEAP office at (972) 566-6550. For updates on her progress, follow LEAP on Facebook and Instagram. We also premiered a video about Nainsi and the Cheryl Lamon Memorial Fund at last year’s Gala, which you can watch on YouTube (click here).
