OUR PURPOSE

LEAP is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of people around the world by providing free specialized medical and surgical services inspired by the love of Christ.

Since 1991, LEAP Global Missions has focused on providing specialized surgical services to those in need around the world. Our areas of service include: Mission Program, Mary Lamon Memorial Fund, Cheryl Lamon Memorial Fund, and Mary’s Gift.

Our work helps those who have no other options. By giving of our time and expertise, loving unconditionally and humbly serving humanity, we demonstrate our faith through actions. We strive to always act in a manner that mirrors our strong beliefs.

Those we serve receive the highest level of care possible regardless of religious affiliation or cultural differences. Volunteers with various backgrounds are welcomed and supported. We bring this inclusiveness into our global partnerships as well.

HISTORY

After completing medical training and surgical residency in 1990, Dallas-based plastic surgeon Dr. Craig Hobar traveled to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip that forever changed him. While there, he observed the need of children with craniofacial conditions living in areas that lacked access to specialized craniofacial and reconstructive surgical care. In 1991, Dr. Hobar founded the Life Enhancement Association for People (LEAP) to help children around the world gain access to this care. While the organization’s name has changed over the years, the core values remain constant. Based on the needs of our host countries, LEAP also provides oculoplastic and ophthalmological, orthodontic and dental,  Mohs skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, and ENT surgical care. Although the primary focus is on children, LEAP volunteers will treat adults as the need arises.

OUR CORE VALUES

Unconditional love: In all we do, we treat people with dignity and kindness because we are all God’s children.

Depth over breadth: Our long-term commitment to communities, families, and patients creates a lasting impact and endears a deep trust.

Excellence in care: Our medical volunteers are highly-qualified and skilled in providing the best possible care, even with limited resources.

Respect for all human life: Money or geography should not be hindrances to receiving treatment. Access to appropriate medical care is a basic human right.

The power of healing: These surgeries give patients and their families a fresh start and an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to their communities. They also experience the healing hands of Christ.
